Graduation Bliss

Congratulations to Johnetta B. Flomo, a proud member of the Golden Key International Honour Society, for successfully completing her Master’s in Publishing with an emphasis in Design and Technology from the College of Professional Studies, George Washington University, Washington, D.C. This milestone in her life brings Johnetta to the final fulfillment of her childhood dreams. Growing up, she aspired to be an artist, a linguist, and a pastor.

Johnetta fulfilled her dream of becoming a linguist when she graduated from the Centre Universitaire d’Études Française (top of her class) and also l’Université Félix Houphouët-Boigny Côte d’Ivoire, where she studied French as a foreign language and Modern French Literary Studies, respectively. Although she didn’t become a pastor, Johnetta preaches once every quarter in a local church.

Johnetta also has been serving as the support staff for Stewardship Ministries for almost two decades. She enjoys her ever-evolving responsibilities and is constantly on a learning path, sharpening her skills to gain a deeper understanding of fundamental principles that would help her work more efficiently as well as enhance her job performance and work experience.

When asked how she overcame the challenges of being a full-time career woman, a wife, and a mother of nine (two of her children are ages 6 and 11), Johnetta smiles and says, “God is my strength. He gave me the wisdom and determination to press on. It wasn’t easy; I just had to begin. I also had a great support group both at home and at work, people who helped make this a reality.” Johnetta hopes, however, that her accomplishment will inspire other colleagues to pursue their educational dreams and be able to use their expertise in different fields of study to further the work of God.

Four Graduates in One Family

On Sunday, May 20, 2018, Johnetta graduated in the top 10 percent of her class and accepted her degree alongside one of her daughters, Denise E. Saint-Jean, who obtained her Master’s in Public Health from the Milkens Institute of Public Health, George Washington University, Washington, D.C. Three days later, her U.S. military son, Victor Flomo, graduated with his Bachelor’s in Information Technology from Towson University in Towson, Maryland. On Wednesday, June 13, 2018, her youngest son, John T. Flomo, Jr., will graduate from the Deer Park Elementary School in Owings Mills, Maryland, and looks forward to being a student of the Earth/Space Science Magnet program of the Deer Park Middle School, Owings Mills, Maryland. To God be the glory!

Johnetta longs to one day reunite with her parents, now deceased, who were both educators, and thank them for instilling in her the desire to learn. With her master’s degree under her belt, she might just want to reach for the sky. A Ph.D. in the making? Only time will tell; maybe after she pays off her student loans. By then she will have completed her autobiography, Made It: Only by His Grace.
