New Study—Congregational Giving

A recent study (Barbe, 2024) on congregational giving has highlighted the pertinent role of pastoral leadership in local churches in influencing members’ giving. Some key findings about how to increase participation in giving include:

  1. Pastors who view influencing members’ giving as part of their responsibility are more likely to achieve better results.
  2. The personal convictions of pastoral leaders regarding congregational giving significantly influence their congregants.
  3. Awareness of both the contextual reality and the personal circumstances of members is determinant to the process of influencing members.
  4. Provide regular and updated instructions covering the following subjects: creation and management of resources and embracing a generous lifestyle.
  5. Cultivate quality and personal relationships with and among members.
  6. Delegate and mainstream the responsibility of educating and promoting giving.
  7. Explore alternative methods of providing instructions, connecting with members, and offering different modes of giving.
