SSD-Southern Mindanao: Faithfulness in Giving

A family transferred to Upi, Maguindanao, Philippines, a remote area where no vehicles can reach or penetrate; this place is far and has rough and rugged roads. Despite being the only Seventh-day Adventists in the area, the family faithfully worshipped God every Sabbath, even without a pastor or other church leader.

A year later, the district pastor learned about their stay in Upi and arranged for them to be visited by the Central Upi Seventh-day Adventist Church’s elders, together with the district pastor. The family was delighted to see them, and after a long conversation, the couple told the district pastor that they would like to remit the tithe and offerings they had set aside throughout that year during Sabbath worship.

The pastor was amazed and touched when the wife took the twelve thousand pesos (PHP 12,000) from her waist and remitted it to him. Strangely enough, Upi had been infested daily with rebels that year, and this family was able to keep their tithe and offerings safe around the waist of the wife.

Since then, the family has been visited frequently by Pastor Dante Dabucol (Southern Mindanao Mission Stewardship director) and Pastor Danielo Palomares (South Philippine Union Conference Stewardship director) in their new home in Midsayap, North Cotabato, Philippines.

Tithes and offerings are holy; they belong to God. They have to be faithfully returned to Him.
